Energetic brushwork in bold color mixes with technology in the upcoming ArtHaus exhibition of paintings by Patter Hellstrom. Hellstrom’s use of innovative materials and digital markers straddle traditional and new media while exploring energetic systems. QR codes lead the viewer into a layered experience, first with dazzling color and movement then through a digital portal with the help of their smart phone. Viewers snap the simple black and white icon and the app takes them deeper into the work of art. -

How do you create a storyline that will convince someone that this is meant to be her home?"...The concept rings true for this reporter: I nearly bid on one home that was totally wrong for us based solely on the seller's books and a mural painted on their daughter's bedroom wall. ARTHAUS Gallery Abstract Notions 2013 (8)
Abstract Notions in the project gallery at ARTHAUS Gallery in the San Francisco tech corridor uses a new diptych 4 feet x 6 feet, titled Twin Impulses as it's signature piece. Also on view are the Intimate Landscapes in acrylic ink on polypropylene. These banded landscapes reflect upon the Asian concept of heaven/earth/humanity, which employes vision, practically and resourcefulness in creating a successful world outlook. -

The exhibit presented an abstract and prismatic works by San Francisco based artist Patter Hellstrom, unlocking the flow of color and emotion. In the continuum of history, places and ideas change, yet a tangible quality remains. My project knits together the past while engaging the present in seeking an elusive balance with permanence. Patter Hellstrom exhibited this series of intimate panel paintings at the Mina Dresden Gallery in San Francisco. Chhatra relates to the eight auspicious symbols seen in Tibetan Buddhism. The parasol (Chhatra) reference used in this work relates to protection; keeping beings from harm such as sun, illness, harmful forces, and obstacles. Curated by Lynnore Goldfarb, the show was an investigation of the ideas and patterns that surface while artists create new bodies of work. -
